After leaving Alice heading north there was approx. 1000kms to get to Katherine, our next significant stop. The long drives were somewhat tedious as evidenced by the "I am so bored I took photos in the car" pictures.
We did however, stop (more like a brief pause) and survive Barrow Creek. Jenny, our resident safety nazi was clearly on edge driving through here. Luckily she wasn't behind the wheel! I kept asking her why was this ute flashing his lights at us, and slowing down...... as I previously said this was a tedious drive so we grasped at anything to relieve the boredom.
Further to the above we even took to photographing road signs although this one was worth it. The guy in the shop swears he last saw a UFO in April. Wycliff Well is seriously in the middle of nowhere ( on the Stuart Hwy between Alice and Tennant Creek) so I suppose they do what they can to attract business...Oliver bought a snazzy $7.00 keyring and he doesn't even possess a key so I suppose it works.
During these long driving stages we listen to the talking books and were on our second Harry Potter (thanks Longs) during this leg. It was very strange hearing Stephen Fry talk about ghouls, dragons and other beasties in dark damp castles whilst driving through a desert. Anyway it did the trick and kept the "are we there yets" to a tolerable level.
